Paramount Canada's Wonderland Trip Report

The Reids and Acers coerced me into writing my first trip report, so here we go...
Feeling severe withdrawal symptoms after CoasterCon, the Ries family decided to join the Reids and Acers at PCW for the day Saturday. Unfortunately, my flight home from Calgary the night before was delayed, and I didn't get home until 4:00am. Meeting them at 10 was definitely out of the question. We arrived at the park about 2:30, and checked the message book. Sure enough, there was a message to meet at GR at 3:00. Figuring we didn't have time for a ride, we decided to indulge in funnel cakes with ice cream. There are two food items in particular that PCW does better than any of the other twenty or so parks I have visited: Hot dogs and funnel cakes. We had just finished cleaning little sticky fingers when Kevin, Scott, and Carol walked by. After hellos, we went back to GR, where we had a wonderful hour-long conversation with Phil Liggett, one of the VPs of the park. Scott & Carol had met him at IAAPA, and he took an hour out of his work day to chat with us. Following this, there were mutterings of hunger, so we all decided to go back to the Reids for a BBQ.

Many thanks to Kevin and Donna for a wonderful dinner. Kevin is a master of the grill. Since I hadn't yet gotten my coaster fix, we all headed back to the park, and made a bee-line for Minebuster. Alas, as we crossed the bridge over the stream, we could see the queues for both Minebuster and Skyrider emptying. A flash in the sky told us why: lightning. A few minutes later, drizzle started. We made our way back to International Street, and figured we'd seek shelter at Southside Grill. As we got close, the rain stopped, so Kevin, Scott, Carol and I headed off to Top Gun (which had resumed operation), while Shari, Donna, and the kids continued on to the Grill. After about 10 minutes in the queue, the weather again worsened, and Top Gun suspended operations. Bailing from the queue line, we met the others at Southside Grill. Two minutes later, the sky opened up. It was "KennyKon Rain". After about half an hour and a decrease in precipitation volume, we figured no coasters would re-open, so we left the park.
