Friday morning started off with rain and was overcast most of the day but, PCW Junkie had a smile on his face because he knew it was the "Stuff" that great evenings at Wonderland were made from. At 6:00PM the PCW Junkies and the Junkies neighbours all jump into the Lumina Minivan and head 30kms south. Arrived at the PCW parking lot and the place looked deserted we park right next to the front gates (Primo Parking Spot). This was one of least busiest nights in the summer I have ever experienced at Wonderland. I kid you not it was like having personal ERT for the JUNKIES on any ride. All the ride ops were extra friendly this evening, I guess because of the light crowds all day. PCW very rarely ever only runs one train on the their coasters but , Wild Beast was only running one train. The ride Supervisor told me that they didnt even bother taking the second train out because they knew by the weather the crowds would be light. Even with one train, my favourite, Wild Beast had no wait and you could stay on if you wanted.
My neighbour, Glen, has been going to PCW since it opened in 1981 and was not a coaster fan until he started going with Junkies in 1997. He has ridden all his first PCW coaster rides with me. Glen just doesnt like the first drops. Well Friday night was an other first for Glen his first Topgun, Vekoma SLC, and Mighty Canadian Minebuster, woodie, rides. I never laughed so hard on a coaster listening to the sounds coming from Glen experiencing Topgun for the first time. We walked onto Topgun and I asked him he wanted to do it again and he declined. Then over to MCM for his first ever ride. I asked him he if he was going to put his hands up going down the first drop while we were ascending the lift hill he just kind of looked at me funny.
My son, Adam, and I headed to Skyrider, Togo standup, for our first ever ride together. Glen graciously bowed out of this one. Skyrider is still a great ride and I am glad Adam is finally tall enough because I will have a riding partner on King Cobra at PKI this September.
The evening was going great still sunny out with a few clouds in the sky. While stopping for a pizza the clouds gave a few showers. We waited it out while we rode Chopper Chase and that was it for the rain for the rest of the evening.
The real treat of the night came when Glen noticed that the light where on inside the mountain where Thunder Run, works. We finished up our multiple rides on "The Fly" and headed over to Thunder Run. It was really neat to see inside the mountain for the first time. They most of noticed the lights were on because they were off within a half hour. We head over to Vortex, Arrow suspended, what have they done to this ride this year? This ride just keeps on getting better and better as the season progresses. The ride seems faster than ever and the "G" are always in your face. We all agreed that we love this ride. Wasnt quite able to convince youngest son, Nolan, to get on ,YET. Went for a few more rides on The Fly and Wild Beast and darn it , it was 10:00pm and Wonderland was closing.
All seven of us agreed that it had been a fabulous evening for the PCW JUNKIES at Wonderland. This was our 27th visit to Wonderland this year and probably one of our best visits since 1996 when we first started going. We will never get bored of this park we love it. It doesnt matter what PCW gets next year because we will be buying our 2000 seasons pass in September regardless.
