Reids and Water... Really...

Mini PCW Splash Works TR 080101

The Reids are not normally water park folks but the relentless heat and humidity in the Metro Toronto area had us running to PCW's Splash Works Last Night.

Got to the park just before 6:30PM and we could tell by how far back the car were parked that it was indeed a very busy day at our home park. Walked directly to the back of the park for Splash Works. The boys could not wait for their mom in the extremely long washroom wait so they started their cool down with Pumphouse.

PCW has a very large wave pool called Whitewater Bay. We spent the next little while cooling off here. I just love to sit in the wave pool and watch the coaster train’s of Minebuster go up the lift hill and drop down the first drop. With each train passing I wish I could be riding each and every one. For those unfamiliar with PCW’s Splash Works it was built right around Minebuster as matter of fact MCM splits Splash Works in two. Minebuster has gained many chopper effects with the many bridges and slides crossing over MCM’s track. Surprisingly the Splash Work Crowd was beginning to thin out but the tower for The Plunge and Super Soaker continued to have a large line up.

Around 7:30PM we got in line for our first of many rides on the twin slides of Blackhole. We waited less than ten minutes for our first slide and basically had EST (Exclusive Slide Time) until Splash Works closed. Splash Works normally closes at 8:00PM but they delayed closing until 8:15PM because of the crowd. Prior to last year I was a bit of a chicken to try Blackhole because I figured it would be pitch dark. Well it is not pitch black and you can actually see your route most of the way down. This year Blackhole has switched to single tube rides while in the past they used a double person tube ride. I figure we got at least a dozen rides in. I am also happy to report the PCW has changed their policy on wearing glasses on water slides… You do not have to remove them as long as you are wearing a strap.

I could probably count on both hands the number of times that we have visited Splash Works since 1996. We should do it more often because we had a lot of fun and were also able to get cooled off.

We were out of Splash Works by 8:30PM and walked towards MCM and the line was on the stairs and too long for us coaster snobs to wait. We decided to walk over to Wild Beast and give it one ride before we left. Wild Beast only had about a five train wait and recently we have become 1.1 riders on Wild Beast. Why? The airtime off the second drop and second turn around is excellent. We had a front seat ride on Wild Beast on Sunday evening and it was one of our season’s best. We were hoping for a repeat performance tonight. Wild Beast did not let us down and delivered an excellent airtime filled ride. Wild Beast continues to delivers and we are so happy to have this gem in our home park.

Regards,
Kevin Reid
