I had the pleasure of taking my wife's 21 year-old nephew on his first roller coasters rides yesterday at PCW. We meet at the park at 10:00 am to beat the crowds. I thought I would break him in gently with a ride on Thunder Run , a family type run-away mine train ride. I am sure Kent was thinking, "if this is all this park has to offer I can handle anything after riding Thunder Run." Kent should of known I was only teasing him because my seven year old son also wanted to ride.
Next stop was PCWs version of Vortex, an Arrow suspended, and unfortunately it broke down while in the queue. Being the experienced Wonderland junkie that I am, I was not going to waste time in a non moving line, so we bailed out and headed for his first upside down coaster. Next stop, Dragon Fyre, A double loop Arrow corkscrew. I told him that a true enthusiast will always wait for the front seat. Well anybody who knows PCW know that you dont have to wait very long for Dragon Fyres front seat.
Kent was really getting into this coaster thing so much so that he said, "What is that tall thing over there?" "Oh that is DROP ZONE but, you dont really want go on that. It isnt a coaster", I said. Then my kids spoke up " You are just chicken Dad". Kids are the worst critics arent they? "Okay I will go on if you want to." Unfortunately Kent said yes. So here I was trying to be Mister cool and I am forced to ride DROP ZONE a ride I was able to avoid for almost two seasons. We waited about 30 minutes to face the Ride that I had run out of excuse of why not to ride. (click here for list). Finally our turn , we start our ascent, we see the top of Wild Beasts Lift hill looking up and noticing we are not even close to half way up . Finally we reach the top. We are facing north towards highway 400. I swear I could see the satellite dish in my backyard some 30kms away. Then whoooh we are away the best AIR TIME/Thrill in your stomach feeling ever, and then the brakes come on ever so smoothly. WHY did I wait so long?
Next Stop PCWs wooden Wild Beast one of my personal favorites. Line-ups were still not too bad. This was Kents first woodie. Being the gentleman I am, I let my wife take her nephew on this ride. My younger son , Nolan, and I walked up to the exit ramp and watched.
After Wild Beast we got in the queue for THE BAT, a Vekoma Boomerang, this is still a very popular ride at PCW and has some pretty long lines. Our wait was only about 15-20 minutes. We liked this ride but, sat at the back because I hate going fast backwards.
Next came his first stand up - PCWs Skyrider. He liked this ride but, man is it a terribly slow loader we waited almost 40 minutes for this one.
Lunchtime was upon us so we headed to South Side Grill. The only indoor eating joint at PCW.
We then went to James Bond License to Trill Ride. My oldest son always reminds me of the scene from the MR. BEAN movie where Bean says "Brace yourself" when we are sitting in our seats. I have seen this ride to many time to count on my hands and toes but, my kids still enjoy the ride.
Last ride of the day was TOP GUN, a Vekoma SLC, we waited about 40 minutes for the front seat. Kent seemed to like this coaster the best.
We didnt have time to do the other woodie Great Canadian Minebuster. We decided to pack it up and head back to Newmarket for a BBQ.
Summary,
Weather was beautiful, company was great, I got to show people the park that my family and
I love, and finally got the courage up to ride the DROP ZONE.
